This is a great idea. Is this specifically a request for the Month view of the schedule? Or, something else?

Currently, you can set an Activity Types to make sure that the customer and/or Instructor "meet the aircraft's PIC requirements". For example, if the Activity Type is checking the Instructor for this and the aircraft "is Tailwheel" then we would check this. Keep in mind, users would need updated Pilot Certificates in order to really start enforcing these (you could data enter yourself, or enable users access on their own). So, it is possible to enforce these.

However, I do see some scenarios where it can be simpler to just added an instructor and select which aircraft they can be scheduled for. This would be much easier to set up and can have the same net effect.

We’ve been looking into this further. It’s a feature we would love to add and I believe we will. Ideally if an appointment was created or edited in Flight Schedule Pro, your personal calendar would immediately be updated.

However, there’s a real down side to us syncing with personal calendars. It’s the fact that they new appointments won’t show up immediately and when appointments are rescheduled in Flight Schedule Pro the update won’t be seen for many hours in your personal calendar.

For example, if you use Google Calendar, it could take 8 hours or more for an appointment rescheduled in Flight Schedule Pro to show the correct start-time in Google Calendar.

Google knows about this issue, but it’s not something they plan on fixing.

I just wanted to share this information with you and see if you still love this full sync feature.

Would you mind commenting and letting…

Well said Mike. We appreciate your feedback on this feature. We're committed to adding this feature, please say tuned.

If the company has upgraded to v4, there's a new "Add to Calendar" button which makes it easy to add an FSP appointment to your personal calendar. We're also planning to add these to the end of the process when a new appointment is being scheduled and the confirmation email itself which I think will help.

Mike, you are correct - it is the delay of the user's calendar updating that we are concerned about. This is a real problem for us because we have no control over how often the 3rd party calendar chooses to request the latest data from the FSP feed. Do a search on Google Calendar iCal feed delays and you'll see this is a widespread issue.

Thanks for the feedback Joshua. Try editing your appointment in Flight Schedule Pro and see how long it takes to update in your personal calendar. What personal calendar are you using?

AdminJasen Barnes (Team FSP, Flight Schedule Pro) commented  ·

The problem with providing you an iCal link is that the personal calendar (specifically Google Calendar) is rarely updated if there are changes to appointments in Flight Schedule Pro. We believe this will result in a lot of confusion around when appointments begin. This is a well documented problem we've identified with using a simple iCal feed. We're still exploring ways we can achieve personal calendar sync reliably.

Allowing you to add individual appointments to your calendar manually is very straightforward and will work flawlessly. If there were changes to an appointment you could just click to re-add the appointment to your calendar and remove the old one. We can also include links to do this from reservation emails.

But this is not the full sync feature we are conversing about here - which has a huge downside (major delays in updating your personal calendar with new appointments or appointment changes). As a scheduling provider, the last thing we want to do is cause confusion around when appointments begin.

Hi All! We agree to that this is a great feature to add to Flight Schedule Pro. We've already started working on it on the new version. Thanks for all the feedback.

We've made it easier to change the filter, but we still need to make it easier to see how you're currently filtered. We've designed some improvements in this area and plan to release them. I don't have a release date at this time. Thank you for the feedback!

James, thanks for the update on this. One way I've seen this handled is by having an admin create a new Activity Type called "Cancelled" with a special color. This type could be selected instead of deleting the reservation so it will still be visible on the schedule.

AdminJasen Barnes (Team FSP, Flight Schedule Pro) commented  ·

Bruce, thanks for posting the idea. Currently, we remove cancelled reservations from the schedule but admins can still review reports on cancellations.

Great idea. I think right now it says something like "Cancellation Reason: Other - Aircraft went down for maintenance". It would be better if we allowed you to customize this.

Alejandro, this is a great idea. I think we are best setup to handle this with our all new reservation types which will be available later this year.

The best we have for this right now is an option you can turn on via your work schedule that says something to the affect of “Only allow company staff to reserve me”. We could definitely use some more options for you here though.

Hi Bruce, thanks for the idea. We will certainly take note of this for future releases.
